- Will Johnson
Will Johnson is the main character of Inverse and leader of the Aura Guild. He is a thinker and picks out the small things but now and again, misses the bigger picture. He has a fear of rejection from women and peers. He is a British male from Birmingham moved to America at the age of 13, however his accent is still prominent. Throughout the majority of the novel he is just turning 18, before Inverse is under a silent attack. Will seeming to be the centre of the attacks, digs deeper to find out the truth. He realises his involvement is more meaningful as he uncovers some dark family secrets and connections to the attacker, Sebastian Ivanivichko.
But how close is he to Sebastian?
After his love interest, Rachael, is abducted, Will takes it upon himself to ensure justice, but there is a long journey ahead and it wont be easy.
Aura Colour: Blue
Will’s Forte: Sound Amplification – An extremely rare power in Inverse with estimated five people possessing it. Will has the ability to single out frequencies, amplify them, silence them or manipulate them into various styles of attacks that can be both deadly and defensive. For example, he can take lower frequencies and amplify them into Sonic booms for powerful long range attacks or could take higher frequencies and turn them into visible small but powerful punch-like attacks. It is one of the most sought after power with it being so varied.
(A Forte power is a power deemed strong by game rules. Only three can be acquired at once and it is either gained, found or earned in battle. Any persons can take a forte, when successfully beating an opponent in game battle. The defeated opponent has no choice but to give up their forte during log-out if the winner wishes to take it. This is the most common form of gaining a Forte. They can also be mutually traded or sold.)
- Sebastian Ivanivichko
The main antagonist, Sebastian is of Russian-British descent. He is extraordinarily advanced in computer science, he is described as being beyond his time by at least 10 years. It didn’t take long for Sebastian to create counter-codes and viruses to infiltrate Inverse, managing to hack, disable and re-write security system and various other programs, undetected by the Game Masters – despite the fact that Inverse itself is more protected than the Crown Jewels and US Military files put together. His reasoning behind the attacks is unknown, but it does seem apparent that he is in interested in Will.
Sebastian’s Forte: Sebastian has allegedly ten fortes. Most rumoured to have are; Calamity – an illegal mind terrorising power causing the one affected to relive terrifying moments and phobias, Dublach – A spell that duplicates oneself to a ghostly looking form that is essentially a flying missile, TelePyro – A rare power to make objects any size to blow up or demolish, Super-Telekinesis – the power to move anything, and Uisce Mora – An extremely rare forte with only 3 known to possess it, it is a spell to manipulate water when present. It allows the user to create tides or even tsunami’s.
- Ray Pallamino
Ray Pallamino is Will’s close and best friend. A stocky no nonsense jock of the group, takes his pride and surprisingly his school work extremely seriously. Ray is not academically talented and so strives harder to keep up with his peers, which also puts stress on his temper which he willingly and gladly lets out while connected to Inverse. Ray is described of mexican descent and is the same age as Will being in the same school year. Ray supports Will in the decisions he takes during the Inverse take over. He starts to take a liking to the charming Amy Waddell.
But can he truly trust those around him?
Aura Colour: Green
Ray’s Forte: Super Strength – A common forte that requires more skill. Ray has the ability to throw trucks, parts of buildings and rip trees from the ground with little effort. Super Strength is a fairly slow forte, so good strategic skills are needed. A bonus to Super Strength is slower health depletion and makes blocking attacks easier.
- Rachael Shaw
Rachael is a sexy but very sassy atheletic young woman described as a pretty brunette with a curvy figure. Rachael obviously takes a liking to Will Johnson but at times seems to give Brett Rem more attention than needed. Rachael although for the majority she is a peaceful friend, she also has a feisty defensive side which Amy Waddell likes to push. Rachael is extremely down to earth considering she comes from a very rich background owning Chevrolet Camaro. Apart from the car she seeks nothing more but to earn her own materialistic possessions rather than living off her parents.
But she’s also a good liar…
Aura Colour: Crimson Pink
Rachael’s Forte: Flash Teleport – Although all Inverse users have the power to teleport from one place to another, flash teleport allows you to transport in the same space extremely quickly. It is more of an offensive power that allows you to teleport around your opponent at fast speeds, to continuously hit them without being hit yourself. It can also be used as a faster way of running for dodging and escaping.
- Randeep Singh
Randeep Singh is an American-Indian self-proclaimed geek. He is described as slim, with a prominent jawline and thick black wavvy hair. He is the most intelligent in school having being the first (known person) to be able to hack into a small program in Inverse. Because of this when he finishes with school and college he has a job at Inverse working on as a Digital-Psychology Programmer. He supports Will and works alongside Toby Jenkins in finding cracks in the hacking-code and during the Inverse take-over he seeks to isolate the viruses and try and destroy them. He is the boyfriend of Colleen Berlinger. Although he seems to be weak, Randeep is an extremely strong character with a logistically thinking mind.
He longs to seek the truth about the hacking codes and viruses, but does he really want to find out?
Aura Colour: Deep Red
Randeeps Forte: Object Immunity – Randeep is completely immune to all objects, therefore he can never be injured or be killed by means of physical items, such as swords or enchanted bracelets etc. Those who dare try will find the attack rebounded onto themselves. In addition to Object Immunity Randeep’s energy based powers are enhanced.
- Amy Waddell
Amy is a secretive person, it is not really known how old she really is or whether she attends school at all. It is assumed she is around 19/20 years old. Described as slim, slender with dark hair and innocent looking features which can, at times hold a frighteningly stern look. Amy is a stand-alone player, earning money through assassinations and retrieval. Amy is crafty and very skilled regardless of her job, Will finds out that she is actually a very good and nice person even if her people skills are lacking. Amy starts to realise things are changing for the worse when she is hired for strange assassinations that have little or no motive behind them. She finds Will Johnson after hearing his name being thrown around by those hiring her. She aids Will Johnson during the Inverse take over and introduces him to computer science genius Toby Jenkins. She also develops a liking to Ray Pallamino.
She’s trying to find the culprit, but she may have already found him…
Amy’s Forte: Charm – It’s one of the main reasons why Amy is so popular as an assassin. Fairly rare with only a few thousand possessing the power. Everyone in the presence of Amy will feel a strong connection to her, they will feel less likely to attack and do anything she likes just so they can please her as much as possible, at times they may feel lustful towards her. Charm is a very strong power and reduces the risk of being attacked however, it will have a less or no effect on those who consciously fight against the power. Although harmless, Charm is an R-rated power for it’s slight mind manipulation, it is only effective on those over 18 years of age.
- Colleen Berlinger
Colleen Berlinger is the most popular girl at school, head cheerleader, fairly clever, slim and blonde who has a very motherly side to her. Despite her high reputation at school she has been in a relationship with the biggest geek Randeep since the age of 14. Colleen is a very caring and loving person whom only fights if she really has too. During the Inverse take over she takes it up on herself to find and make sure younger children are safe from harm.
Colleen is trying to stay out of it, but she can’t for long…
Aura Colour: Yellow
Colleen’s Forte: Empathy Absorb & Shield – Reflective of Colleen’s good nature, she has the ability to absorb other peoples negative emotions into herself and turn it into a shield. Depending on the strength of the will and the emotion felt depends on the strength of the shield, at the most it is completely impenetrable at the least it can stop physical based attacks. It can also be used to take away sadness and anger from that other people. This Forte is rare in terms that not many people actually want it, as it is quite a selfless power.
- Trist or Tristiano Chevalier
Trist was not originally part of Will’s Aura guild, he was part of a wizard guild. After his guild mysteriously disappears he joins Will and his guild in the quest for answers. He is described as a young olive-skinned french man, 6 foot tall with short black hair. After finding out some dark secrets about his guild he officially joins the Aura Guild. Tristiano is down-to-earth, at times a dopey person. He finds it hard to see the worst in people and very rarely is anything but smiley and happy.
But have the group accepted him a bit too quickly?
Aura Colour: Deep Purple
Trist’s Forte: Cosain Muid – A spell that brings up an impenetrable force field, common but not a popular choice for wizards. The force field can not always last long. The length of time depends on how willing the person is who is executing it. It takes a lot of strength and focus to be able to keep it up for a decent length of time.
- Toby Jenkins
One of the most intelligent hackers around, he is slightly crazy with an acquired humour, described as around 25 with short dark hair with sideburns and a slim skinny like body. Toby spends his time creating programs for big companies on a freelance basis. The time he has spare he spends it in an undetectable hub hacking in Inverse. His hacks are purely “to see the beauty of the way Inverse has been written” and it is more for his educational curiosity. Toby did however create his own companion, Gryphsor – a small Shih Tzu dog that can transform into a sword, those who are struck by it can be killed instantly, however it has never been tested. This is the only time Toby has ever hacked Inverse for something other than for educational reasons. Toby knows all of Inverse’s secrets which becomes useful for Will. He also works alongside Randeep, to hack into Inverse deeper then they could imagine to find and resolve the changes in code.
Toby’s forte: Unknown, they have never seen him battle, it is assumed that Gryphsor is his unofficial forte.
- Brett Rem
Brett is a college student that is part of the Aura Guild. The rest of them rarely, if not at all, see him outside of the game. Brett is a heart-throb described as tall, around 6 foot, with dirty blonde hair. He likes to chat up women and doesn’t care of the consequences. He is most of the time happy. But he is also having problems with his character in Inverse, mainly violent out bursts and developing strange and illegal powers.
But why did they let him into the guild, if they had never met him? Or the real question is, do they even remember adding him to the guild?
Aura Colour: Light Brownish.
Brett Forte: Blinder – Opposite to Will’s power, Brett has the ability to manipulate light. Again very rare with only 7 people known to possess it. Brett can blind any opponent. He can also bring light to when it’s dark and dim lights around him. Although it is limited compared to Will’s, it is more useful than you would think and potentially more dangerous.
Notable Characters:
Terry and Darla Meredith
Terry and Darla are siblings who are reptilian shifters. Described with spanish looking features. They are part of the Gespo’s a word for big criminals in Inverse. They are savage and needy bounty hunters, with a lot of knowledge of the underground crime. Externally they are human but can morph into evil looking humanoid reptillians – reminiscent of the reptillian conspiracy theory.
Luke & Moo Miller
Two creepy looking twins, one male, one female. They speak in unison and generally in code and riddles. They keep appearing at random times, seeming to know a lot about Will and Sebastian. How they know and where they are from is unknown.
Nicolae Hadland
Nicolae is one of Sebastians seven leaders, they’re goal is to get as many people on Sebastians side as possible. As Sebastian fears that those who disagree to his rules will bring a war. Nicolae seems to be Sebastian’s favourite doing most of the errands, possibly sharing the same Russian-British culture brings them closer together.
Woman In White
An unknown woman, who is slightly transparent and ghost-like. Described as a short woman with perfect features and shoulder length strawberry blonde hair. Her wavy dress floats into a smoke-like tip and seems to float when she walks. She appears on certain occasions and in Will’s dreams.
Joel The Dragon Master
Joel is one of the most famous of gamers in Inverse, getting his name from owning three fierce dragons, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. He runs one of the biggest of medieval type worlds in Inverse. He is polite and well-mannered but also thrives off battles and power. He is rumoured to have one of rarest forte’s however has never been seen using it, but it could explain his power. He has had runnings with Gespo’s before, and allegedly came close to being banned from Inverse, but it is largely unknown what exactly happened.
